Background

A book smart, techno-savvy witch, Willow grew up in Sunnydale, California, home of one of the known Hellmouths (which, like never nudes, are pretty much exactly what they sound like). Willow was unaware of the danger of her hometown until vampire Slayer Buffy Summers moved there. (Note: not any of the Buffys who went to FH. Willow is from a different dimension.)

Once she found out that Sunnydale was a magnet for vampires and demons, Willow did what she could to aid Buffy in her fight, first with computer skills and research, then with magic. Her most notable spell is being one of the very few who can perform the curse that gives Angel his soul.

All of this goes far to explain why for Willow Fandom isn't all that strange.

Where Canon and Character go separate ways

Willow got as far as 'Something Blue', did the will be done spell, wished to not have to deal with the pain of Oz breaking up with her, and found herself in her 16 year old self once more facing a junior year of high school. Because her magic is not perfect, she still remembered Oz, but she figured she got a second chance so she's going for it.

Back in Sunnydale the timeline is the same. Buffy's still in college, Xander's still in the basement, yadda yadda. The Sunnydale gang in her dimension thinks that Willow transferred to another college. She hasn't told anyone back home that she's in high school again, and she's only told Xander Harris, Bridge Carson, and Peter Pevensie that she's not as she appears.
