Umberto is a neural clone of Scorpius, a Peacekeeper who inserted a chip into the brain of John Crichton more of less because he could. Umberto could be a constant presence in John's head, sometimes causing hallucinations and delusions, and after Scorpius put him into action, he began taking John over with Scorpius' personality.
