Background

To summarize Cable's background is akin to madness. This is the summary.

Born to a mutant codenamed Cyclops and his wife Madelyne (clone of a mutant codenamed Phoenix), he faced his father leaving and his mother going evil before he was even housebroken. He was infected with a techno-organic virus that turned his flesh into metal. To cure this, the baby was sent into a horrible post-apocalyptic future, where he grew up fighting for survival every day together with the rest of the clan Askani. The fact that he possessed vast (if limited, due to the virus that was never quite cured and had to be kept in check) telekinetic and telepathic powers may have helped with this.

Eventually, he would defeat the bad guy, and go roaming around the still war-torn lands throughout his teenage years. In the process, he gathered up a group of followers that would come to be called the Askani Clan Chosen. They believed him to be the legendary savior, Askani'son, and fought together against a tyrannical government for many years.

They lost the battle, and Nate lost everything - his wife, his son, and the war. Disinclined to give up, he returned to the past instead, fighting to prevent the future from ever coming true.

After beating up and destroying a lot of stuff in an attempt to achieve this, he finally managed to kill the bad guy long before he managed to warp the future. Unfortunately, it didn't change much. Facing a major existential crisis, Nate gave up on attempting to live a normal life (something which he considered for about five seconds) and took to battle as the Fifth Power instead, striving to change the world through his actions.

In the process, he would befriend long-time blood enemy Deadpool, build an island, take over a fictional Eastern European nation, and rekindle his relationship with mercenary Domino.
Cable

Where Canon and Character go separate ways

After exploding himself to death on Providence Island, Cable gets stuck in Deadpool's brain. Yeah.

Through very convoluted plotting, he is brought back to life in a clone body, and proceeds to get horribly stuck to Fandom. Considering the badness going on at home, he's not particularly happy about that, but there's very little he can do but try to manipulate the seemingly randomly fluctuating communications barrier between him and his own world.

In Fandom

On Saturday the 30th of August, 2008, Cable swept in and took the mayorship for himself.

Living Arrangements

He currently occupies the apartment above what used to be Blood Gulch Arms and has since become Wellspring Arms.

Relationships

Nate's romantic track record is tiny, littered entirely with failures due to his own nature getting in the way, and unlikely to be updated any time soon. His on-again off-again girlfriend Domino doesn't know he's alive, and considering the fact he broke her trust when he promised her he wouldn't commit suicide - ten minutes before he did - it is a relationship that is unlikely to restart any time soon.

In more platonic areas, he seems to be coursing down to a fragile understanding (or, at least, cease-fire) with Alianne, maintains something akin to a working relationship (or acquaintanship) with Benton Fraser in the wake of the plague, and seems to find some joy or interest in helping his employees Rikku and Ino Yamanaka with their various issues. Indeed, his relationship with the entire island seems to fall to either disinterest or deep caring, depending on the situation, and he keeps close tabs on the radio.

Arashi Uzumaki does not like him. At all. This may have something to do with his friendship with Wade Wilson, which provokes great jealousy in the ninja. Arashi, however, is little more than another potential liability to Nate, who has no real feelings towards him one way or the other.

Finally, he maintains the same strange, volatile friendship with Wade Wilson as he has over the past few years. Both men know each other better than anyone else, sins and all, and seem to have fallen into a habit of wiping their various clashes under the rug. That rug has gathered quite a pile, though, and whenever they swing back to the antagonistic side of their relationship, some of that excrement tends to hit the fan. Amongst all of these issues, they seem to genuinely like each other anyway. Nobody quite understands why.

They also have no UST whatsoever. Really.

Adventures

The Plague
A chance encounter with Sarah Kerrigan on the eve of the plague leaves him wondering. After spending the ensuing night watching America's Next Top Model with Deadpool, he hears of events on the radio and bolts. To help, of course. Spreading himself across the research team and the clinic, he would also dub himself liaison to security, keeping Benton Fraser informed and brainstorming about the cause for the plague (including one interlude in which Deadpool tries a bodyslide and is crushed under Nate's weight in front of the good Constable's own eyes).

When Deadpool finds out Nate's been pushing himself to the brink of death, the big mutant goes down beneath the force of elephant-strength tranquilizer, and ends up in the clinic being cared for by the mouthy merc himself. How's that for turnabout. After being cured, he is asked to give a speech.

And then goes back to work.
