Name: Melaka "Mel" Fray |
Background
Melaka Fray is a thief and the first vampire slayer to be "called" in over two centuries. Demons were banished from the Earth at some point in the 21st century by an unnamed Slayer and her friends, and the Watchers' Council has descended into a group of crazed fanatics who generally like to set themselves on fire than try and train the newest slayer.
The vampires, now dubbed lurks, and other demons have returned to haunt the city of Haddyn. With the Watchers' Council ineffective, a group of "neutral" demons send Urkonn (a sarcastic demon with horns, goat legs and part of his face missing) to prepare Melaka Fray for the war that is to surely come.
Unlike the slayers before her, Mel is missing the visions and instinctive knowledge that should have been hers. Instead those visions and instincts have been passed on to her twin brother, Harth, who has been turned into a vampire and is now leading the lurks to bring back hell on earth. (Yes. That old nut.)
Mel does her best to resist the teachings of Urkonn and avoid fighting in general until she finds the body of her young friend, a mutant girl named Loo, with her neck snapped. Determined to avenge her, Mel rallies the inhabitants of the slums and puts aside her differences with her older sister and the local law enforcement to fight against the lurks.
When the battle is said and done, the apocalypse is prevented, Mel kills Urkonn (who actually killed Loo to motivate Melaka) and Mel continues on her journey of self-discovery. She even ends up finding an abandoned Watcher library where she learns more about the past lives of various slayers.
Where Canon and Melaka go separate ways
In canon Mel is 19. In Fandom High Mel is 17 and has been sent to Fandom High by the now crazy as a june bug Watcher Council in order to fin her "link" to the previous slayers lives.

Living Arrangements
Mel is currently living in Room 320 with Zuko.
They are definitely not the best of friends.
There could be something more going on there. Involving Physical contact.
But call Mel a Firelady and you'll get knocked out. Really.
Relationships
Upon arriving to Fandom High, Mel's first encounter was with Dawn Summers who spotted her bearing the scythe/axe. Thereafter she's met several members of the jossverse and has become friends with Willow Rosenberg, Buffy Summers and eventually gained a watcher in the form of an older Xander Harris.
She's also become quite close with Katara, despite Mel's non-dating relationship with Zuko.
She's also gone on patrol quite frequently with other people including Isabel Evans, Rikku, Bridge Carson, Zarine Bashere, Abigail Whistler, Jo Harvelle, Zero Hopeless-Savage, Aravis Tarkheena, Molly Hayes and her "little brother Edward Elric (II)
And despite what Jim Halpert thinks, he is not her Arch-Nemesis.
Nor is he a Pacifist Vampire.
Outside of Fandom High, Mel had several ties back home including her sister Erin, her pseudo parent figures, Amma and Jove, her old boss, Gunther aka Fishstick and her vampire brother Harth.
During one time traveling adventure, Mel ended up back in her timeline with some of her friends from FH. In a span of a few days, Harth managed to not only kill their sister, Erin, but also burn down any connection Mel may have had with her time line.
What this means for Mel now that she has no home to return to when she finishes school is still up in the air.

Other
Abilities and Equipment
Mel has the standard abilities of a slayer: Increased strength, speed, agility and healing. She does seem to have a problem dodging girders and tends to land on her face when she jumps off a 30 story building.
Her fighting skill is less martial arts and more bar room brawler, relying more on her natural abilities than technique.
Mel is also a master thief, able to break into most high security systems to get what she wants. Usually she gets her jobs from Gunther who is... well pretty much a fish. In FH she will probably ply her trade from time to time on any willing businesses willing to let me burglarize their shops. Most of the equipment she uses in her thieving trade will be brought with her to FH.
Mel also uses an energy gun of some sort, which she mostly uses to blind or disable her opponents. She also will have the "scythe" that Buffy used in the later episodes of season season in BTVS.
