Background

The world Logan comes from is a post-apocalyptic Earth analogue where an electro-magnetic pulse bomb was detonated in the United States in the year 2009. This reduced the one time super power to a third-world country as electronics of all kinds were completely fried and the economy was thrown into chaos.

In the midst of this chaos, the government instituted martial law and the western seaboard became strictly patrolled by the military and cities were governed with an iron fist.

Before the Pulse, Logan Cale was a journalist at the Seattle Free Press. After the Pulse, most news media that wasn't directly controlled by the government shut down and, due to certain articles that he published and views that Logan held (those being very critical of government operations and handling of the new, less perfect America that they now found themselves inhabiting), he was forced to go into seclusion to avoid being hunted down and arrested.

This seclusion was made easier by the fact that his family was once highly involved in financial business dealings that accrued them quite a large fortune (medical imports and exports), which Logan's parents left to him following their deaths.

While in hiding he utilized his contacts from being a journalist to form an information network that extended even into the (now largely corrupt) police force and low levels of the government. He used the information and his fortune, as well as his own computer and hacking skills, to begin airing 60 second broadcasts that untraceably interrupted the television signal to bring the information to the public. Calling himself "Eyes Only", he did this as well as aided militia groups such as S1W, fighting government corruption and helping those who had no one to turn to for solace.

Some of those were refugees from the Manticore super-soldier program (of which Max and Alec were a part). Logan befriended Max, who agreed to help him in exchange for use of his information network to track down her fellow escapees that she had lost contact with. The entirety of the Dark Angel TV series covers this part, as Logan and Max search for her friends and they fall in love, with various difficulties befalling them on both fronts.

Where Canon and Character go separate ways

For Fandom purposes, Logan comes from early 2022, following the events of the TV series and the novel "After The Dark", when loose ends from the series have largely been tied up. Logan, without nearly as much to do now that the transhumans and transgenics have begun to find their place in Seattle - especially with Max leading the charge, decides to take a leave of absence in order to sort things out for himself. Still wanting to help where he can, he chooses Fandom as his destination, maybe hoping to teach younger minds who can carry on the same sense of tolerance and justice later on in life.
