Background
Where Canon and Katara go separate ways
Katara leaves canon after episode 2.1. Instead of Aang deciding to refuse General Fong's proposal for him to fight with the Earth Army in the Avatar state as he did in canon, Aang decides to stay with General Fong. Katara follows up on her decision to leave Aang and tries to get back to the North Pole. Instead she ends up in Fandom and can't find a way back.

Living Arrangements
When she arrived at Fandom, Katara was assigned to room 312 with Yasutora Sado.
Relationships
As luck would have it the first person Katara ran into in Fandom was Zuko, one of her worst enemies from home. They ended up fighting almost immediately and both were given detention by Principal Zoe Washburn.
She also learned shortly thereafter that her brother Sokka - from a different timeline was a student at Fandom as well.
Since coming to Fandom, she's made friends with Molly Hayes, Melaka Fray, Zack Addy, Tori Hanson, Jamie Madrox, and Lucas Wolenczak as well as her roommate Chad.

Adventures
AU Weekend
Katara turned into a very bad Zutara fanfic version of himself during AU weekend. During the week before, she and Zuko had set a duel for Saturday at dusk. Upon being affected by the weekend, Zuko instead declared his love to Katara which was immediately requited by her. They spent the weekend making out and freaking out Melaka Fray and Sokka.
Katara and Zuko immediately fought again upon waking up Monday morning in Zuko's bed.
Creepy Shadows Plot
Katara was drawn into the Creepy Shadows plot when she realised some of her friends including Tori Hanson and Molly Hayes were affected by the Shadows. Since she couldn't help directly with research (since she's still learning to read English), she took what she'd learned in Defense Against Malicious Magic and started carrying around hot chocolate and chocolate bars to force upon people give to people affected by the shadows.
She was part of group one in the final attempt to get rid of the shadows with Luke Skywalker and Dean Winchester.
Time's Arrow
Katara heard about the portal Lucas discovered while talking to him in the library. She refused to let him go through the portal by himself, saying that he needed backup. She was determinedly stubborn until he agreed that she could come with him.
She and Lucas got trapped on Fandom Island 1816 when the portal closed. They had a few encounters with Mayor Snively Whiplash and ended up tied to train tracks until an older version of Jane Canary rescued them.
They fought off the samurai fishman with the residents of 1816 Fandom and were brought back to present day Fandom by a group of intrepid adventurers led by Sokka, Rikku, and Isabel Evans.
